Bhanu Prakash retrospects MegaMovies in 2003

This year we had two mega movies, Johnny and Tagore.
One is disappointment while the other is sensation. Lets talk about Johnny first, Johnny was the much awaited movie in the history of telugu cinema.
Reasons were not many, only Pawan Kalyan, The artist who did not taste the flop once recognized, The hero who was riding all the success with extraordinary charisma, The star who is desperate for perfection, ila cheppukuntoo pothe. …
The hero himself was directing first time, that too after mega blockbuster Kushi, which was released back in 2001. The debacle of Johnny can be termed as September 11th for Megafans.
Anyone, including rivals, never dreamt about it. The movie lacks the entertainment values for which telugu audience would like to die, not to mention Pawan movies always had bundles of them.
Shot taking was excellent, Direction was reasonably better compared to so called great directors. But the story selection was not entertainment based.

Every tom and dick wrote bad reviews about the movie as if they came from professional movie schooling.
But after the September 2nd , when all magazines published the mighty interviews from powerstar which shown the intellectuality of master mind, moods were certainly changed.
Pawan accepted the failure of Johnny and clearly explained the reasons behind the disaster. Every answer was so thoughtful. Those interviews gave enormous confidence for fans who are now ready to celebrate for four upcoming power movies.
Once again proves, Everything is sensation if it is Pawan Kalyan. Pawan said he had no regrets for making Johnny, even fans are proud of him for making such a high techie movie though he had chance to work with biggies and would have got the commercial hits.

Coming to the other side of the coin, Tagore, The movie which brought astonishing Mega success after Indra and Johnny. It has collected a share which was at peak of telegu movie stamina. It smashed all the real and fake records and ran for 50 days in 253 centers and 100days in 192 centers.
The back to back mega hits from Annayya proved once again that there is only one King of tollywood. ?Tagore to atu edu taralaki itu edu taralaki tanu andanani Chiru marosari niroopinhcadu?.
Excellent screenplay and direction by Young mega cyclone Vinayak brought the required impact. The dances from Megastar mesmerized the audiences and turned a message oriented movie in to commercial cookie. Annayya performance stood as one among best. He himself rated Tagore as one of the best 10 in his career.
Meantime, Arjun?s Gangotri was well received and created records for a debutant.

In 2004, we can expect couple of movies each from Mega brothers. Anji releasing first on Jan 7th, as the audio already got tremendous response, hype is increasing for this venture.
Then we will have Powerpacked Gudumba Shankar in April, Later we might have Anjana productions movie with Chiru and Vyjayanthi movies one with Pawan. Overall it will be a real treat for Megafans.
