‘Gangs of Wasseypur 2′ is the second part in Anurag Kashyap’s gangster drama and the film will release tomorrow across the world. Special premieres were held in a few places and we have been to one. Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Huma Qureshi, Richa Chadda, Zeishan Qadri, Reema Sen and others star in this installment. Let us see how the film is
‘Gangs of Wasseypur 2′ takes off from where the first part ended. This part chronicles the rise of Faisal Khan( Nawazuddin), the most powerful and ruthless man of Wasseypur. He mercilessly hunts down his enemies and gains control over the key businesses in the town. His opposition with Ramadhir Singh (Tigmanshu Dhulia) and Sultan Qureshi (Pankaj Tripathi) continues in this part as well.
As Faisal Khan and Sultan face off, innocent family members, government officials and the general public become collateral damage. The quagmire of politics, religion, caste and business gives rise to a heady mix of emotions that threaten to engulf not just the two warring families, but the entire town of Wasseypur.
What happens to Faisal Khan’s quest for revenge? Will the blood feud ever end? That forms the story.
Plus Points :
Nawazuddin Siddiqui is simply brilliant as Faisal Khan. This is his one man show and you can watch GOW 2 simply for the sheer pleasure of watching this remarkable actor on screen. He shows tremendous variations in his performance, ranging from unconcealed evil to childlike vulnerability.
Huma Qureshi is a revelation. Her performance is flawless and she shares a sizzling chemistry with Nawazuddin. Richa Chadda is good, though she has much less to do in this part when compared to GOW 1. Zeishan Qadri is good as Definit. Pankaj Tripathi and Tigmanshu Dhulia are good as usual. The actors who portrayed the characters of Perpendicular and Tangent have done a good job.
The pace of GOW 2 is much much better when compared to GOW 1. The narration is entertaining and Nawazuddin’s antics are hilarious at times. The rustic dialogues, the raw violence and the sheer intensity of the film will strike a chord.
Anurag Kashyap makes sure that the rowdy atmosphere of GOW1 is not lost here. Songs are brilliantly involved in the narrative. The climax sequence and the twists are entertaining. The story is nicely tied off in the end.
Minus Points :
Once again, the film does feel a tad long and crisper editing could have helped. The coarse language and the raw scenes may turn some people away. Some of the dialogues maybe a bit tough to understand for audiences who were born and brought up in urban India.
Some elements of the story seem artificial and excessively over the top.
Technical Aspects :
Cinematography is just brilliant here and Rajeev Ravi’s camera work ensures that Wasseypur’s rustic appeal is captured in all its glory. Editing could have been crisper. Sneha Khalwalkar’s music is a major asset for the movie and so is GV Prakash Kumar’s background score.
Dialogues are good and have the potential to bring whistles in theaters. Fights have been designed realistically.
Anurag Kashyap excels as a director in this version of the film and his grip on screenplay is commendable. Full marks to him for coming up with an engaging drama.
Gangs of Wasseypur 2 is Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s one man show. The film can be watched for his superlative performance and for some brilliant storytelling. Raw, rustic and intense, the film is definitely not your average popcorn entertainer. But then, that is the USP of this film. Don’t miss it if
