Punch Line :

Banner: 14 Reels Entertainment
Producer: Ramu Achanta , Gopinath Achanta , Anil Sunkara
Director: Sukumar
Music: Devi Sri Prasad
Casting: Mahesh Babu, Kriti Sanon, Gautham, Kelly Dorji, Nassar and others
Rating:  3.0/5.0
Story
1 Nenokkadine is a story of a Rock Star in search of his own identity. Gautham (Mahesh Babu) is a big Rock Star who believes that he has a bitter past that his parents were killed by three men while the whole world think that Gautham is an orphan with no credible past and is suffering from psychological disorder.  Doctors who examined Gautham also declares that Gautham is suffering from neuro psychological deficiency and is the reason for his belief about his past.
As the story progress, Goutham gets more reasons to believe in his belief that his parents were killed by three villains. How Goutham got clues about his parent’s killers and how he took revenge is the rest of the story.
Performance:
Mahesh Babu delivered it once again. His energetic performance in action scenes and super action in emotional scenes deserves kudos to the superstar.
Kriti Sanon as TV journalist justified her role. This lanky heroine is hot and sexy in songs.
Nasser, Pradeep Rawat and Kelly Dorge are as usual in the antagonist roles. Posani role is little relief in a comic role as cab driver. Sayaji Shindey and Srinivas Reddy appears in brief roles.
Mahesh Babu’s son Gautham had a commendable debut as young Mahesh Babu. He is star kid to watch in future.
Technical:

If Mahesh Babu runs the show on screen, it is all Sukumar show behind the scene. Though the story is a typical revenge drama, screenplay is quite new to Tollywood audience. Good direction with engrossing screenplay is all you need to make it a good film. Sukumar engaged the audience with his screenplay in this movie.

Devi Sri music and background score is good. All the songs are good. Ratnavelu DOP is excellent. Peter Haynes action scenes are excellent. Karthik Srinivas could have edit some length in second half . Production values are high.

Plus:

Mahesh Babu

Sukumar Direction and Screen Play

Action Scenes

Music

Photography

Minus:

Length of the movie

Lack of comedy and commercial elements

Analysis:
I Nenokkadine is an excellent action thriller. Mahesh Babu’s performance is main highlight. Sukumar direction and screenplay gives you a feel of Hollywood film. The first Half of the film is very interesting with protagonist confusing between real and unreal often confusing the audience. But as the story reaches interval, director gives more clarity to the audience.  Second Half is more of a revenge plot with prolonged climax. Climax could have trimmed by at least 15 minutes. The last 15 minutes is watchable only because of Mahesh Babu excellent emotions. Chelia Chelia is a big speed breaker to the story and could have easily avoided.
Though the film is excellent, there are some limitations to its success at the box office. It will be interesting to see how audience will sync with the brilliance of Sukumar’s screenplay. Film length is almost 3 hours which is way too lengthy. Lack of mass elements and comedy deter the chances of film at the Box office success.

Final Talk:

if you are looking for pure masala pot boiler, this film is not for you. The film will be appealed to those who like Hollywood action thrillers with gripping screenplay.  Don’t expect ‘Dookudu’ or ‘Businessman’ kind of dialogues from Mahesh Babu. He is one serious guy on a mission in this movie.

1 Nenokkadine Review, Nenokkadine Review, 1 Movie telugu Review: Prince Mahesh Babu is riding on three back to back super-hits. Movie expectations are high for thriller. Will movie cross the expectations and set box office on afire? Let’s check out
the review.

Story: Gautham (Mahesh Babu) survives from a serious murder attempt in the childhood. Gautham turns as a Rockstar as he grows up. Gautham suffers from integrated disorder where he can’t differenciate between realism and dream. In the meanwhile, Sameera (Kriti Sanon) follow him and finds the hallucination problem. To stay away from the media Gautham leaves to Goa, but Sameera follows to test him according to psychologist Surya. But continuous murder attempts on both Gautham and Sameera makes him realize the fact that goons are not following him but Sameera. How will Gautham get over his flashy flash backs? Will Gautham continue saving Sameera from the goons in goa forms the rest of the storyline.

Analysis :

Amidst of huge expectations, Mahesh Babu’s 1 Nenokkadine is here. Director Sukumar known for different style of taking and presenting movies in a stylish way has teamed up with Prince of Tollywood. As expected movie is stylish in its presentation. Director Sukumar has done a neat job in 1 Nenokkadine, about feelings like suspicion, trust, love and pain. This is one of those flicks in which the director seems to have outsmarted himself. There are plot elements that simply don't get filled in, which seems to be the latest excuse for not knowing how to effectively wrap up a story without letting it become too contrived. Despite the lack of so-called commercial elements such as too much of silly comedy and forced tracks, Sukumar has been fails in narrating the film in an engaging manner.

After a solid and intriguing opening (about the first 15 minutes), 1 Nenokkadine deteriorates into a rather typical thriller. It leads you to believe you're in for something good -something a little different than your run of the mill Tollywood chase flick - it's a major disappointment. There's simply no suspense created and no surprise as
to how this movie ends.

Compared to the Second half of the film First half is very pleasing to watch. Many sequences in the first half are good and as a result, viewers a sort of relived half way through the movie. The second is boring where the story moves at a slower pace and the director has failed used sharp editing techniques to add to the thrilling feel.

TeluguOne Perspective :

Thriller is always an interesting back drop to have for murder mystery movie and Sukumar has presented the setting well. As the first half beings with the story the “Realism & Dream” the mood is exquisitely set. Then begins the chase to find the reality which is not that great but you still feel it okay, the proceedings movie at a smooth pace and as the interval arrives the feeling is about not thrilling but still fair watch. Second half is when things start taking some turns. Climax enigma is where Sukumar loses the game.

The story line is very thin. The director has been able to bring in an emotional confrontation into the story, which is fine. 1 Nenokkadine has very little to cheer about in terms of the story which looks like a hotchpotch of sequences. It seems to meander in the second half where the director fails to handle the emotional bond in the movie.

The director's shortcomings are evident in the way he handles the narrative. The point of convergence where the three tales finally meet is a terrible disappointment. There is a tiny twist here that would act as a spoiler if revealed, but it would suffice to say that it lets the air straight out of this inflated balloon and within seconds it
lands crumpled on the earth.

Performances:

Mahesh Babu has effortlessly carried his role and his fans will certainly enjoy his performance in the film. He is at ease in the dance and fight sequences. Kriti Sanon is apt for the role. Her mannerisms and expressions are of top class.

Another problem is the lack of chemistry between Mahesh Babu and Kriti Sanon. The scenes they shared - and there were plenty - should have been romatic, but they pretty much died in terms of chemistry. Sophie Choudry did an item song and she is good. Nassar did a negative role in this film. He did very well. Pradeep Rawat is good, as usual, as
the villain. Kelly, Anu Hassan etc did well in their cameos.

Technicalities:

Cinematographer Rathnavelu shaky camera does its work perfectly well, and lends a realistic feel to the proceedings. The color and lighting effect he has achieved in the first fight sequence and Pre Interval band is praiseworthy. The film's sore point is its music. Devi Sri Prasad has delivered just two good songs. The other songs are ordinary. Even the Choreography is fine. Editing of the film could have been crispier, leaves a lot to be desired. Dialogues are nice, confusion and sentiment sprinkled into it. Production values are rich.

Plus:

Mahesh Babu

Couple Of Songs

Interval Bang

Cinematography

Minus:

Slow Narration

Inspired story

Second Half Scenes

Editing

Predictable Screenplay

Final Word: 1 Nenokkadine is a Wasted Attempt by Sukumar

Review : 1 – Nenokkadine – Too Complex for Common Man

Release date : 10 January 2014
123telugu.com Rating : NA
Director : Sukumar
Producers : Achanta Ramu , Achanta Gopinath , Anil Sunkara
Music Director : Devi Sri Prasad
Starring : Mahesh Babu, Kriti Sanon, Nassar, Posani Krishna Murali…
Superstar Mahesh Babu’s ’1 – Nenokkadine’ has released today across the world. Sukumar has directed this movie and 14 Reels Entertainment banner has produced this movie. Kriti Sanon is the heroine and Devi Sri Prasad is the music director. ’1 -Nenokkadine’ has come in with great hype and high expectations, so let us see how the film is.

Story :Gautham (Mahesh Babu) is a rockstar with a troubled childhood. He witnesses the gruesome murder of his parents, but he has clear memory of how they look or where they lived. He keeps experiencing strange events and believes that people are out to kill him. But those around him fail to notice any of the events.A journalist named Sameera (Kriti Sanon) enters Gautham’s life and fall in love with him. Gautham sets out to seek answers to all the questions tormenting him and Sameera joins him in this endeavour. The search takes them to Goa, Northern Ireland and London. He discovers that some powerful opponents are out to get him. He also learns some shocking truths about his parents and discovers the motive behind their murder. What is that motive? Is Gautham really experiencing all those attacks? That forms the story of ’1 – Nenokkadine’.

Plus Points :Mahesh Babu is simply outstanding as Gautham. He looks lean and fit and he has tried his best to shoulder a weak product. Once can see how hard Mahesh Babu worked for the movie. Gautham Krishna does not have much to do, but he has done what is required of him.Kriti Sanon looks good, especially in the sequences shot in Goa. She has given an okay performance. The interval sequence has been shot well and Mahesh Babu’s performance in this sequence is excellent. Some of the chase sequences have been shot well and Ratnavelu’s cinematography is a big asset for the movie.Minus Points :The screenplay of this movie is one big mess. The plot is needlessly complex and will be quite tough for most people to handle. A film like ‘Inception’ is perhaps easier to understand than this movie. The production team hyped up the action sequences that were shot in London. But in the film, these scenes end up causing a big disappointment. They are way too small and basically what you see in the teasers is all that there is to those scenes. The film’s runtime is a big minus and at least 30 minutes could have been shaved off from the film. There are way too many chase sequences in the film and they do not add to the thrill factor.Entertainment quotient is near zero. There is no comedy to engage casual moviegoers and Mahesh Babu’s fans will be disappointed with the lack of heroism in the film. The climax is a big disappointment.

Technical Aspects :Ratnavelu’s cinematography is a big asset for the movie. The visuals shot in London and Ireland look superb. Devi Sri Prasad’s music is quite mediocre for the film, but he has done a better job with the background score. He seems to have been inspired by John Powell’s work for the Bourne series.Editing is not up to the mark. Dialogues are quite mediocre. Direction is a big minus for the film. The production unit spent almost two years on this movie and this is quite surprising, as there is nothing spectacular to justify the amount of time and money spent on the film.

Verdict :For all the hype surrounding the movie, ’1 – Nenokkadine’ ends up as a disappointment. Except for Mahesh Babu’s outstanding performance in the film, there is nothing in the film to entice or entertain movie lovers. The needlessly complex plot and excessive run time make things worse. Because of Mahesh Babu’s stardom and the Sankranthi season, the film may pull in good revenues in week 1.

123Telugu.com Rating – NA(Note : We are the media partners of the film and it is not ethical to rate a movie that we have promoted. As a result, we are not giving a rating. Read the review and watch the film).

1 Nenokkadine Movie Review

Mahesh Babu and Sukumar combination itself has raised so many expectations on 1 Nenokkadine. This film being produced by Dookudu producers and touted to be the biggest budget film in Tollywood history has multiplied the hype. The film is finally out in theaters after being in the production stage for around two years. Is 1 Nenokkadine the film that lives up to the hype?

What is it about?

Gautham (Mahesh) is a rock star, who suffers from a psychological problem. He has a troubled childhood and the images of that haunt him all the time. He is aware that three people have killed his parents and he gets nightmares about them chasing him and killing. Gautham believes that something has happened to his family and starts to chase those people.

Performances:

Mahesh Babu has given one of his career best performances in this film. He is a wonderful actor and Sukumar tapped his acting abilities to the maximum in this movie. Mahesh Babu excels in emotional and entertaining scenes. Interval scene is an example for how good an actor he is. The intensity he brings in is amazing. He is definitely the high point of this film. He has done some dances that will please his fans. There is no six pack scene, but he did go shirtless and appeared with bare back in a shower scene.

Kriti Sanon is alright as an actress. But her character irritates in the first half. Goa episode tortures on the heroine front. Nasser is good and Kelli Dorjee is usual. Pradeep Rawat is standard and Posani Krishna Murali is alright. There is an item song on Sophie Chowdary and it is not up to the expectations.

Technicalities:

1 is a technically well made film. It has superb cinematography and top notch visuals. We don't get to see these kind of visuals in Telugu films often. Devi Sri Prasad scored with the background score. His songs are just average. We expect more from the combination of DSP and Sukumar. Editing is alright about the basics. But the film lags on and on and drags for almost three hours. Wonder what the editor was doing? Production values are rich and it requires guts for any makers to spend so much money on a film that doesn't have any commercial elements.

Sukumar is one director that makes movies with out of box ideas and novel themes. He doesn't try to do regular mass masala movies and always comes up with something new. Even 1 Nenokkadine has a very unique plot, but he failed to execute it well. He couldn't blend the action and the psychological angle of the hero in a proper way and the movie end up as a torture to the audience.

Analysis:

The protagonist chasing his unknown past is a good theme that could have been dealt in commercial format. Instead Sukumar opted to deal it in a different way, something that Tamil directors do. But except for few brilliant shots and intelligent scenes, Sukumar couldn't do justice to the script and characterization.

First half doesn't move at all. Entire Goa episode is a complete waste and bores you to the core. Nothing happens until the interval point and things get suddenly interesting by that time. Interval scene is conceived well and we can see the stamp of Sukumar all over it. Mahesh simply rocked it.

We expect the film to move at a faster pace after the break. But once again the confused screenplay starts to confuse the viewers and moves at a snail's pace. At one point the film ends, but the director somehow manages to drag it for another half hour. Those twists didn't work and the chases and action episodes just tests your patience.

Mahesh Babu's brilliant performance is the only saving grace for this film. He has put in heart and soul in to the character and gave everything to it. But director Sukumar got it completely wrong and 1 ends up as an experiment that went horribly wrong.

Verdict: 1 Nenokkadine - Even Mahesh Babu couldn't save this!

1 Nenokkadine Movie Review By Hapra

Movie Review: 1 NENOKKADINE (By Hapra)

Rating: 2.25/5

Cast: Mahesh Babu, Kriti Sanon, Posani, Kelly Dorjee, Nazar, Pradeep Ravat and others

Cinematogrpaher: Ratnavelu

Action: Peter Hains

Art director: Rajeevan

Music: Devi Sri Prasad

Screenplay: Sunil Madhav

Direction: Sukumar

Producer: EROS Entertainment & 14 Reels

Release date: 10th January, 2013

Director Sukumar is popular for his intelligent screenplay woven with a simple story. Though he hasn’t seen big blockbusters in career, his films are always interesting. For the first time, he joined hands with Mahesh Babu to make ‘1 Nenokkadine’ with a whopping budget of 65+ crores.

The CONTENT

Gowtham (Mahesh) is rock star who gets haunted by the thoughts of killers of his parents. Though he feels that he has already killed them, truth is that he hasn’t. At the same time Sameera (Kriti Sanon) is a news reporter working in a TV channel who wants to explore and publish Gowtham’s story. And everyone thinks that Gowtham is just hallucinating as if he got a dark past that his parents are murdered and he killed a couple of the killers already. In the process of discovering his past, he falls for Sameera. She too accepts him with a condition that he should forget that past and then they are attacked by a dangerous truth. So, what is that truth Gowtham is seeking? Did he have his revenge? What secrets his unknown past will reveal to him? All these things forms rest of story.

The EFFORT :

On-Screen:

Mahesh Babu is at his best again in a Rockstar, truth-seeker, revenge-seeker role. His chiselled body added a new dimension to his performance. This time he is a show stealer with his dances too, and stunning action moves added to it. As his role demands quite serious and depressed look, he has maintained that sharp looks and disappointed expressions perfectly. Still, some magic is missing for sure.

Newbie Kriti Sanon is a worthy find by the director as she takes you by a surprise in her media-girl role. No where she looks like a debutant as she carries everything comfortably. She is glamorous and a good dancer too, but her natural sex appeal fails to appeal all sections of audience.

With 1 being his debut to silver screen, Gowtham (Mahesh’s son) simply looked cute and attractive as younger version of Mahesh. Though his expressions are little weak, his dubbing (voice) is really awesome.

Nazar is just okay, as this is not his best. His role is not having much substance that he can put up his strength to peaks. Posani is not at all utilized properly, as he failed to bring proper laughs to the audience in cab driver role. Kelly Dorjee is common in that villain role. Pradeep Rawat, Sayaji Shinde, Srinivas Reddy and other did nothing to boast about.

Most talked item girl, Sophie Choudary, has failed to catch up with the rhythm in ‘London Babu’ song, though her naughty steps even with that bulky physique are interesting.

Off-Screen:

Sukumar got an amazing idea and he established that in the first minute of the flick itself. He is a master in extracting sensible performances, and this time too he succeeded. But a meal tastes spicy only when all other ingredients are properly stuffed. Director’s sudden confusion in handling certain stuff, and losing grip are clearly visible this time.

Cinematographer Ratnavelu and action director Peter Hains have done amazing job for ‘1’. Ratnavelu’s careful choosing of color palettes for each episode, his lighting schemes and camera angles breeze fresh air into the movie. Peter Hains composed interesting stunts for Mahesh, like in one scene our hero turns a boat upside down and turns up again in ocean waters. This is something new to Telugu cinema.

Devi Sri Prasad disappointed completely this time, as his songs already turned average and his background score too lacked kick. For action-sequences, the feel and chill is always brought in by music, but DSP failed to make brilliantly conceived sequences riveting.

Art director Rajeevan is good as he matched director’s expectations of delivering a dark look and feel for the whole flick.

The PLUSES:

·               Mahesh’s looks, dances, stunts

·               Parts of First Half

·               Interval Block

The MINUSES:

·         Poor second half

·         Simple climax

·         Weak comedy

·         Background score

BREAKDOWN:

Rather picking up conventional masala stories laced with intelligence, this time Sukumar picked story of a hero who suffers with ‘hallucination’. He tried nothing on commercial front literally, though there is some slapstick comedy and sparkling glamour. But, it takes real intelligence to understand ‘1’ in the first hour, and by the time you start enjoying, Sukumar forgets pace and falls in routine plot.

Film starts on a promising note with Mahesh introduced as a Rock Star, and then grips intensity as he searches for a ‘truth’ regarding his childhood. But when scene shifts to Goa, things get boring as the romance episodes between Mahesh and Kriti lack that depth. However it is the interval block that holds your breath, as Mahesh’s varied performance in a confused role makes hair rising. Later in the second half, story turns predictable at times, but still some twists mark ‘intelligent’ brand of director again. All the twists lead to a simple climax, though we expect something huge, ending it in a typical Telugu style. Songs are little saviours, as Mahesh’s dance steps are interesting though their filming in tight locations is not appealing.

Mahesh has put 100% effort again and tried maximum to entertain with serious look and chiselled body. But what is surprising is that why a rock-star background is setup for the hero when it is not used to support the story quite well.  Couple of new dance steps and hero’s shirtless scene will bring goose bumps. Had Sukumar maintained the same wow factor throughout the flick, then the result would have become an industry record.

Too much of technical brilliance doesn’t add much to success if it is not supported by stunning story. Though the thought behind making ‘1’ is interesting, Sukumar’s dull finish in the second hour and with climax is a letdown. No doubt, ‘1’ failed to pass many subjects, though he is a brilliant student. B & Centres find it tough to understand this ‘intelligent’ guy. We have to see how this impacts trade.

The FINISHING Line:  Mahesh missed Sankranthi hat trick

AndhraBoxoffice Review
Rating: 275/5
By OM

1 Nenokkadine, The most costliest film ever released so far in Telugu Film Industry. Sukumar teaming up with Mahesh who is in prime form of his career  with Hat-trick hits has made expectations to sky rocket right from the launch. 14 Reels who gave a blockbuster with Mahesh have spent some big money on this risky script. Can they pull off with the same amount of success Dookudu got?.  Read on.

Story :

Mahesh, the Rockstar of Hyderabad is suffering from a disorder of illusion. He don`t know who his parents are and who he is himself?. Kriti is a News TV reporter interested in Mahesh. One night after a concert he finds a clue to his past and goes after chasing it. Where he`s landed up in this search forms the rest.

Performances:

Mahesh gave his best shot to everything including dances in the film. Mostly an emotional & angry character, he did especially good job in Interval & Climax. He tried his best to overcome the limitations of the script but in vain. Kriti, the débutante actress is adequate, Her glamorous side is more appealing than acting. Kelly Dorjee, Pradeep Rawat & Nazar`s supporting roles are fine. Posani`s cameo as cabbie is cool.

Technical Departments

Music: DSP did a decent job on the Music front. `Rockstar` & `You are my love` on screen are good. But you may not connect with the 2nd one much. Haunting BGM is worth a mention.

Cinematography:  Visually rich. Camera work is good.

Editing: The film should have been more short, may be around 150 min. It needs an immediate chopping off if they want it to appeal to at-least `A` Centres.

Stunts: Stunts in the film are some times lengthy and over the top. But chase sequences are good. You can expect some Hollywood style here.

Story,Screenplay & Direction :

Story is a Revenge drama with added element of puzzling suspense and emotion. The main problem with the film is the confusing screen play in 1st half about Reality & Illusion. Those episodes irritate the audience and make them laugh at the one screen happenings. The 2nd half is a lot better and meaningful with a good song & emotional climax. But the damage done in 1st half is too much that you won`t feel satisfied in the end. The idea is good but execution has gone haywire!.

Good Scenes & Moments

First Half

1. RockStar Song

2.Interval Episode

Second half

1.`You are my love` song

2.London Heroine twist

3.Climax

Plus

1. Mahesh

2. Music

3. Visuals

Minus

1. Irritating narration

2. Confusing screenplay

3. Editing

Rating: 2.75 / 5

Box-office Verdict

The film is an entirely new experience for Tollywood audience and is a high cost unconvincing experiment. The script isn`t worth the money spent at. It is complete lapse of judgement from the makers that they made this film in that high a budget. Mahesh as an actor gave his best shot and we can`t put fingers at him. Fault lies with sukumr for confusing 1st half. Coming for the Boxoffice numbers, The film is more likely to be end up as flop if not a Disaster commercially speaking.

Bottom Line: This High cost experiment has gone haywire.

GreatAndhra:
Film: 1-Nenokkadine
Rating: 2.5/5
Banners: EROS International, 14 Reels Entertainment
Cast: Mahesh Babu, Kriti Sanon, Kelly Dorjee, Nasser, Posani, Sayaji Shinde, Pradeep Rawat, Srinivas Reddy, Gautham Krishna and others
Music: Devi Sri Prasad
Cinematographer: Ratnavelu
Editor: Karthika Srinivas
Director: Sukumar
Producers: Achanta Ram, Achanta Gopichand, Anil Sunkara
Release date: 10/01/2014

Prince Mahesh Babu is back after spending a lot of his time and dates on this project. It is also the first time director Sukumar has attempted something different. Is it that different? Let us see

Story
Gautham (Mahesh) is a famous rockstar but he is suffering from bad dreams since childhood. He tends to see three people who are believed to be his parents killers and he also sets to take vengeance on them. But all this is downplayed by the medics who say it is just his hallucination and nothing more. However, Gautham strongly believes in that and a journalist Sameera (Kriti) comes to his aid. Whether he is successful in finding about his past or not forms the rest of the story.

Performances
Mahesh Babu looks shrunk and he seems to have worked out a lot but not one scene was able to show those sleek muscles. Not much was there for him to perform too as it was serious character.

Kriti Sanon is drop dead beautiful. She has an extremely camera friendly face and added to that, her height and glowing skin give that glam appeal. She looks sexy with good performance quotient and has every potential to become a top league queen here.

Gautham Krishna looked cute and confident in front of the camera. Nasser was brief but did his part well. Kelly Dorjee was usual. Posani was okay. Pradeep Rawat was hardly there. Sayaji Shinde was not that great. Sophie’s sex appeal and oomph factor was not used properly.

Highlights

    Mahesh Babu
    Cinematography
    Background score

Drawbacks

    Confusing storyline
    Complicated screenplay
    Lag in scenes
    Weak songs
    Poor gripping quotient
    Lack of enough peaks

Analysis
What happens when you are in full mood to have Dosa and then you get served a Subway sandwich? It is not to say Subway stuff is not good but the mood and taste goes bitter. The same experience happens when you watch this film.

Ideally, for any star hero film there are certain elements of expectation and requirement the audience seeks before entering the theatres. And if it is someone like Mahesh Babu then such requirements are more.

Given the time, money that has gone into the making and the hype that has been created there was enough happening in the audience minds when they waited for the film to take off. But after few minutes of the start, the mind goes blank and is basically trying to figure out what or why is it necessary to strain the brain so much.

Well, Sukumar has not left his signature style and worked a lot on the psychological aspect. In fact, the entire story revolves around the protagonist and his internal conflict, the action sequences and romance were just accessories which brought some energy into the whole plot.

Still, the lag factor tends to test the patience of the viewer to a large extent. The film takes off with some promise but as it progresses the brain game and psychological stuff from Sukumar begins to show and makes the audience feel over taxing their brains.

The interval bang was good no doubt and many expected the second half to make up for it. However, the second half also proceeds at its own pace.

Even the songs were not complete and it was evident that they were cut to reduce the run time of the film.

A thriller is meant to keep the viewer on the edge of seat but by the time the film reaches the closing stages, some of them are either slipping from the seats or sleeping by resting back.

Overall, the rating given is more to do with the technical aspects and the making but in terms of content this is not a product expected from Sukumar.

Bottomline: G'ONE' out of expectation

idlebrain 3.25/5

Story

Gautam (Mahesh Babu) is a rockstar. He is alone and his parents are killed when he was a kid. He wants to take revenge on the killers of his parents. But, he has a psychological problem. The rest of the story is all about how he overcomes the psychological problem, how he finds out who his parents’ killers are and how he gets to know more about his parents.

Artists Performance
Mahesh Babu: My respect for Mahesh Babu has increased multifold after watching this movie. His decision to accept a thriller, that's too with psychological issues is a daring one. This film and his character in this movie will remain as one of his best accomplishments in his career. There is lot of underplaying in his characterization and it’s multi-layered. He is simply superb. On the commercial front, his work in interval episode and the shadow step he has done in ‘You Are My Love’ are of top-notch. The final conversation with the main villain and his dialogue to the kid at graveyard is excellent.

Others: Mahesh Babu’s son Gowtam made his debut as childhood Mahesh. He is another superstar in making. Ease in acting and lovable looks! Kriti Sanon is pretty good and suited the height of Mahesh Babu. Kelly Dorji, Pradeep Rawat and Nassar played important roles. Posani Krishna Murali’s role is the only character in this film where the director tried providing regular entertainment. Naveen Polisetty did a vital role. Sophie Choudry has done the item song in this movie..

Technical departments
Story - screenplay - direction: The story of the film looks very simple. But the screenplay is highly complex. There are various layers like revenge, a psychological disorder, eagerness to know about roots and corporate greed. There are a few amazing screenplay tricks in the movie. Director Sukumar added 20% more commercial appeal to what needed for a psychological thriller, but stayed with the theme of the film most of the times. The length of the film should have been taken care of and the screenplay should have been crisp and racy. There are certain issues with the film - heroine interaction in Goa episodes appear repetitive and there is no scope for songs in this kind of thriller. Sukumar has followed Hollywood style and orientation by narrating the film in a classy way. We do expect the death of villain as the final frame of a typical Telugu movie. But there is a lot to the story after the villain’s death. I loved the way he connected the titles episode of the film to the climax and how parents faces are revealed. There is lot of detailing in the film and some people might need a second viewing to understand the nuances and innuendoes in the movie.

Other departments: Cinematography by Ratnavelu is the best. Songs scored by Devi Sri Prasad are not as exciting, but the background music is terrific. Dialogues are very good. There are few entertaining ones like ‘stars ki ac leka poyina parledu. kaani fan lekunda vundaleru’. Locations are wonderful. This film is extensively shot in picturesque locations of Hyderabad, Goa, Thailand, London and Belfast. Action sequences by Peter Hein are well-conceived though you can see inspirations for a couple of sequences (1st action episode and car blast in tunnel (Italian Job - black & white)). Editing should have been better. The runtime should be crisp. The producers of Dookudu should be appreciated for their guts in selecting this genre and spending such a huge budget on this subject.

First things first. 1 Nenokkadine is not an universal film like Dookudu. It belongs to psychological thriller genre. Thriller and psychological are two rare genres that are least attempted in Telugu film industry. It’s also a multi-layered movie. Plus points of film are Mahesh Babu, screenplay, cinematography, production values and technical values. On the flip side, the sluggish narration and excessive runtime hampers the tempo. When three big names - Mahesh Babu, Sukumar and 14 Reels are involved in making such a high-budgeted film, there are bound to be a lot of expectations. 1 Nenokkadine is not a commercial potboiler. Film lovers who have exposure to Hollywood films and world cinema will appreciate this movie. 1 Nenokkadine is a film that makes Mahesh, Sukumar, producers and entire unit proud. We need to wait and see how a common movie lover who is used to formulaic films lap it up.

1 Nenokkadine Review:

Superstar Prince Mahesh Babu’s Most awaited movie “1- Nenokkadine” has finally released today with U/A certificate. It is directed by Sukumar and Produced by Ram Achanta, Gopichand Achanta and Anil Sunkara Under their own banner 14reels Entertainment. Kriti Sanon debuting in to telugu film industry and even Mahesh babu’s son Gautham Krishna is also debuting with this movie.

Story:

Mahesh Babu as Gautham is a rockstar who has fans worldwide but he has a problem of not remembering anything. Mahesh will be followed by a gang and escapes from them, later he findouts the gang leader and kills him. This murder will be shooted in cam by a Tv reporter who is Kriti Sanon, Heroine of the film. But here there will be a twist in that video, In which only Mahesh will be visible but not the villain.

Later, Mahesh will be a lost man who will not concentrate on music. Mahesh will move to Goa, Kriti Sanon will also follow him. There will be a attack on Kriti sanon, Mahesh will save her where both become very close. Mahesh finds Nasser who eye witnessed the murder of his parents, Nasser gives a clue by which he will go in search of Villain. How Mahesh will find the Villain and How he will take revenge that you have to see on screens.

Artist Performance:

Mahesh as a Rock star has done amazing job in the role, Played a completely different role from his previous movies. Mahesh will reach the audience the way he carried the emotions in between scenes.
Kriti Sanon being debutant has done good job as a reporter and completely drawed the attention of the audience. She will make her mark in Telugu Film Industry by this movie. No much scope for the villains as it runs all around lead pair and The performance of the Supporting roles Posani Krishna Murali and Shinde were not up to mark.

Plus Points:-

Mahesh Babu
Gautham Krishna Special Role
Production Values
Sayonara Song

Minus Points:-

Direction
Story line
Entertainment
Screen Play
Background Music

Analysis:

The First Half of the movie will be dragged a lot and full of confusion. Because of the Lengthy Runtime(166 mins) and lack of highlights in the movie, it will make audience feel bored. Sentiment worked well before pre climax and Action scenes and Bike Chases also impressed the audience. The only thing which is interesting in this movie is Lead pair Mahesh and Kriti Sanon. Sukumar choosed a complicated script which requires high effort to make it a success but he failed to reach the common audience.

Overall, Action Thriller movie with full of twists but lack of screenplay. Audience will enjoy Mahesh’s Stunts and Action, Let us wait and see how it reaches the audience.
