HNY Expected To Clock 40-Cr Plus Day One
Last year, we saw Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer, Chennai Express, creating records at the box office. Earlier, the lead pair had created magic in Farah Khan’s 2007 release Om Shanti Om, which too saw extravagant collections. This week, the ticket window will see the trio returning together, to charm movie-goers with Happy New Year, which also features Abhishek Bachchan, Boman Irani, Sonu Sood, Vivaan Shah and Jackie Shroff. Expectations are soaring and distributors believe the film will break box-office records. In fact, they believe Happy New Year will create history with collections crossing Rs 40 crore on day one.

Rajesh Thadani, Multimedia Combines, Mumbai
Happy New Year has huge expectations attached to its release and rightly so. The film has King Khan doing what he does best – giving his audience a larger-than-life canvas. Collections on day one will definitely cross Rs 40 crore, breaking records. The weekend and the first week too will be spectacular as far as returns are concerned. The film has a perfect blend of masala which caters to the masses and classes alike.

Brijesh Tandon, H K Tandon and Company, Delhi-UP
As the film’s release approaches, expectations are multiplying. The film has an exceptional buzz, thanks to Shah Rukh Khan and his team. From marketing to music, everything is making the audience more and more eager to watch the film on the big screen. People can’t wait to see this magnum opus. The first day, the first weekend and first week will see record-breaking numbers and the film will enter the Rs 200-crore club in no time.

Sanjay Ghai, Mukta Movies, Delhi-UP
Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone will set cinema screens ablaze with their chemistry just as they have done before. Sone pe suhaga hoga Farah Khan directing them along with an ensemble cast. There is no doubt the film will exceed collection records by leaps and bounds.

Jaspal Dhingra, Nanaskar Enterprises, East Punjab
When you look at previous Diwali releases, it is always the second day that clocks better numbers than the first day. Hence it is a very smart move to release this film on Friday, which will not only give them record-breaking numbers but also making sure the numbers will remain higher than the other films that release after Happy New Year.

Surender Saluja, Lakshaya Movies, East Punjab
The film is a perfect Diwali gift for the audience as it has action, dance, emotion, romance and comedy all wrapped up with a larger-than-life ribbon. These are the elements that define a Hindi masala entertainer and Happy New Year has all of them. The film will appeal to eight-year-olds as well as 80-year-olds as it is a complete family film. Shah Rukh Khan’s films have a certain assurance and film-goers trust that he always serves up something exceptional. Day one’s collections will cross Rs 45 crore and the film will not only be the fastest Rs 100-crore movie but the fastest Rs 200-crore film to date as well.

Gaurrav Gaur, O’Real Imagination, Rajasthan
Saying that the film will see massive numbers is an understatement. It is all the rage already. First-day numbers will cross Rs 40 crore all-India and in Rajasthan, it will be close to Rs 2 crore. And every circuit will see new box-office records. The film releases on Friday and since Diwali is in Thursday, everyone will rush in to see the movie.

Vasudev Chachan, Sunny Films, Rajasthan
We have already seen a glimpse of what the Shah Rukh Khan-Deepika Padukone jodi can do at the ticket window. Shah Rukh Khan says in the promo, ‘picture toh abhi baaki hai, mere dost’. If the trailer has been such a massive hook, imagine how much business the film will pull in. Day one will be record-breaking and the weekend will be superlative. We can barely wait for Friday.

PS Ramanathan, Rajshree Pictures, CP
The film has Farah Khan directing Shah Rukh Khan and we have already seen what this pair is capable of. Their movies are larger than life and the movie has emotions as its backbone. The first-day numbers will be record-breaking as will the weekend and week’s collections. Lifetime collections will be more than Rs 250 crore. This Diwali will be a Happy New Year indeed.

Debashish Dey, Aum Moviez, West Bengal
People have two festivals this week –  Thursday is Diwali and Friday Happy New Year. No other film has generated the kind of anticipation that this film has. Day one will be humongous, above Rs 40 crore, to say the least. This is another glorious feather in Shah Rukh Khan’s cap.

Amid the din of the Diwali festivities, there is one more reason to celebrate with gusto – the release of Farah Khan’s Happy New Year, featuring Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Boman Irani, Sonu Soon, Vivaan Shah and Jackie Shroff. Advance booking for the film opened with a bang today and it looks like the movie is gearing up to taking the box office by storm. This production, whose larger-than-life canvas and spectacular marketing plan are the talk of the town, has proved that Khan sure delivers on his promise to entertain his audience. And then some!

The film, which is all set to release on Friday, is not only pegged as the highest first-day grosser of all time but is also expected to be the fastest to make it to the Rs 200-crore club. It is expected to notch up fantastic numbers during its first weekend and first week. Programmers from various multiplex chains and exhibitors too believe that Happy New Year will enjoy a smooth sail next week.

Ashish Saksena, BIG Cinemas
Happy New Year is turning out to be a magnum opus. It will be a sureshot winner at the box office, without a doubt. We have seen a phenomenal response to advance bookings, which opened this morning. At present, ticket sales are more than 70 per cent and this will further grow late evening. On average, we have allotted 14 to 18 shows per property. We have received a fabulous response as bulk bookings have already opened for the weekend.

Amar Laykar, PVR Cinemax
This film will undoubtedly ring in gigantic numbers, if advance booking is any indication. Happy New Year’s advance booking is going great guns at our properties. The film, following the Diwali and weekend madness, will definitely set many records for any Hindi film. With 20 shows at each property, on average, we plan to sustain substantial shows for the film in the second week too. The outstanding response to the advance booking suggests that we will sell out our weekend shows today. This film will go down in history in our industry.

Ansh Kapoor, Fun Cinemas
HNY has drawn an outstanding response at the ticket window and is creating a huge buzz as far as advance booking goes. With over 75 per cent advance booking, we predict nothing short of an exceptional weekend. On average, the film has been assigned 10 to 14 shows per property.

Harshad Parmar, Carnival
The film took a fantastic start for its advance booking at our properties, around 80 per cent, and we expect superlative net collections during the weekend. The film is a blockbuster already. With record-breaking day-one collections, the weekend will be nothing short of a celebration as well. On average, the film has 14 shows per property.

Ashish Gogia, Suncity
Advance booking for HNY has elicited a 90-per cent response in most of our properties and the weekend shows are already house full. The weekend will be massive in terms of audience response.

Happy New Year had a huge first weekend with collections around the 97 crore nett mark. The collections were record breaking on day one as it was national holiday but the next two days saw collections drop to lower levels with both days collecting below 30 crore nett. Saturday was a holiday in some parts of the country which meant Sunday failed to show any worthwhile growth from Saturday.

The film set a record in Mumbai circuit grossing around 32.5 crore nett but most of the other circuits fell a little short of Dhoom 3 as far as weekend business is concerned. Both Delhi/UP and East Punjab were around 25 lakhs nett less than Dhoom 3.

The weekend numbers are huge but ideally it would have been better a trend if the film settled at above 30 crore nett on Saturday and Sunday rather than below it. Now the Monday number is all important if it is to challenge the biggest grosser of 2013 Kick. Kick grossed around 155 crore nett in week one.

The Tamil and Telugu versions of the film did not perform that well as this market is mainly for actions films.

Happy New Year Sunday Early Estimate

Happy New Year will be in the same range as Saturday on Sunday with collections in that 28-30 crore nett range which is expected as wherever it was a holiday on Saturday the collections have not gone higher. The potential for growth was in the metros but they find it hard to add on Sunday anyway as night shows are weak.

The growth will probably come in places like East Punjab and West Bengal while most other areas will remain more or less the same with metros like Mumbai city and Bangalore down slightly.

The film will rake an extraordinary weekend though fall a little short of the 100 crore nett mark and to become that real big grosser the acid test will be Monday.

Happy New Year - 175 Crore Worldwide Weekend

Happy New Year grossed a huge 175 crore approx worldwide in its first weekend. The collections are less than Dhoom 3 which was 192 crore but better than Chennai express at 160 crore. The top worldwide opening weekend figures are as follows

1. Dhoom 3 - 192 crore
2. Happy New Year - 175 crore
3. Chennai Express - 160 crore
3. Kick - 126 crore
5. Singham Returns - 119 crore

The other films to go over 100 crore weekend in terms of worldwide figures are Bang Bang, Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani, Dabangg 2 and Jai Ho.

Happy New Year At 109 Crore After Four Days

Happy New Year grossed around 12.25 crore nett on Monday which is a big drop from its first day which was a huge national holiday but around 55% from Saturday nd Sunday which were normal days. The film saw a big drop in the metros and circuits like East Punjab.

The total after four days is around 109 crore nett and the film should gross around 135 crore nett for the week going by its Monday figure but it could be a bit lower as Gujarat could come down on Wednesday when the holidays stop in the circuit.

The Monday figure is pretty good as a number but if we take into account that Gujarat is holiday and without that it would have been 11 crore nett or less then the trend is not strong. The film will not become a major blockbuster like a Kick or Chennai Express but won't be a Bang bang or Jai Ho as well because the huge weekend has ensured the film will be on the plus side..
