In Late 80s & early 90s, Only Tamil actor “Kamala hasan” had a success & fame in Tollywood market, also he has few direct Telugu movies which was super hits in the United AP. Rajinikanth was no where in the Telugu people eyes at that time. But “Kamala hasan” has got struck with class image with his movies like ‘Sagarasangamam’, ‘Swathimuthyam’, ‘Indrudu Chandrudu’ “Subasankalpam” and many more.
During that time, MegaStar Chiranjeevi is ruling the Telugu cinema market with highest remuneration of 1.25 crores paid actor, and he was the only hero who has tremendous following among both class & Mass audience. In very few instances of time, Balakrishna or Nagarjuna had a glimpse of giving the competition to him, but that was not consistent.During the years 93-95, megastar had a series of failures which made him to pause to take a makeup for sometime. We didn’t have a single release from chiru in a year. Then in year 1995, Rajinikanth’s “Basha” was released in telugu and it got a huge success, and superstar got fame momentously among the masses, after that he did a 15 minutes of cameo role in Mohanbabu’s “Peddarayudu” and it was a industry hit. His role in the movie was highly remarkable and well received by audience. He has continued his success track in the from of “Mutthu” “Arunachalam” & “Narasimha” and every one felt that his is the right competetor for chiranjeevi in Telugu, and even some of the anti chiranjeevi’s media group has tried to promote Rajinikanth to the core to bring down the megastar’s speed. Then Chiranjeevi came back with the movie “Hitler” which was released in the year 1997 with a sister’s sentiment and it got a Hit status, then there was no turn back for supreme hero who had a back to back blockbusters and continued his No 1 position till he shifted to Politics
One thing is for sure that Telugu audience helped a lot in getting high status for Rajinikanth in even in national level. That’s how other language hero’s are surviving and getting stardom even till date.
We will keep continue to supporting the other actors, because the telent does matters for us, not the language.
