Chiranjeevi predicts no future for congress in 2014 elections

Chiranjeevi comments on congressIn a surprising outburst at the state Congress leadership, party Rajya Sabha MP Chiranjeevi said the role of the erstwhile Prajarajyam Party leaders and workers was not being recognized and that the Congress returning to power in 2014 would be a distant dream if the present ‘sorry state of affairs continues.

Addressing a gathering at his Jubilee Hills residence of his followers from Ramachandrapuram, from where Thota Trimurthulu, an erstwhile Prajarajyam leader, won in the recent byelections as Congress candidate, Chiranjeevi said the chances of the Congress coming to power in Andhra Pradesh looked a distant dream. “If the same sorry state of affairs continues, target 2014 will become unrealizable,” he said.

The former matinee idol attributed the miserable defeat of the party in the recent bypolls to the scant recognition the PRP workers got from the Congress leadership. “Even though the PRP merged with the Congress, the huge army of its workers failed to get due recognition,” he said. Unless the gulf between the erstwhile PRP and Congress was bridged, the party would not get strengthened in the state, he added.

He said Tirupati was an example to what would happen if there was no integration of minds between PRP and Congress. In Tirupati, the assembly seat held by Chiranjeevi before he became a member of the Rajya Sabha, the YSR Congress beat the Congress by a huge margin.

Stating that he had waited patiently for this integration, Chiranjeevi said he was getting disappointed as it was not happening. “There has been an all-round uncertainty in the party and insecurity feeling among the workers and the leaders. This can best be tackled by appointing dedicated leaders to the nominated posts,” Chiranjeevi said. According to him, the Congress should take the bypoll victories in Narsapur and Ramachandrapuram, where former PRP leaders won, as role models to achieve the integration of minds.

Congress leaders are shocked by chiru’s comments but they could not answer him as the party lost 16 of its seats to opponents in recent by-elections.
