Arjun (Allu Sirish) is a rich kid in this movie. He comes to a beautifull village called S M Palli in search of his best friend Shankar who hails from that village. He comes to know that Shankar fell in love with Rajeshwari, a girl from the upper caste of the same village. Then both lovers moves out of the village to overcome the circumstances. After meeting Shankar’s dad and finding out some bitter truths about Shankar, Arjun decides to stay in the village and find his missing friend.A Trainee lawyer called Yamini (Yami Gautam) assists him in his work .What happened to Shankar ? Can Arjun solve this mystery ? All these elements must be watched on the big screen.
Allu Sirish has choosen a different script and unique subject unlike his cousins for debut movie.Allu Sirish looks confident in his debut movie carried emotional scenes with ease and dialogue delivery, diction are good. But Sirish has to improve a lot in his expressions, dances and fight sequences.
Yami Goutham look beautifull and cute .she has very little role to perform and did a decent job.
Prakash Raj’s role was brief and and has no scope to exhibit his acting skills.LB Sri Ram and Brahmaji are good. Rest of them have very limited roles to mention.
Allu Sirish chooses a thought provoking story for his debut and this is in fact a good choice. The story of the film is unique and intense. Movies like Gouravam are very rare where story is the main hero. Though there is nothing new in the story, director’s guts to touch the concept of ‘Honor Killings’ should be appreciated. But Radha Mohan did not justice to his role. There is no proper screenplay or characterization. There are several loose ends.Story based movies should have intensive screenplay and narration where gouravam movie misses it and the movie moves in a slow paced narration.Gouravam has got more sentiment, action and the climax becomes preachy. First half of the movie is extremely slow paced and second half is decent but the lack of commercial elements.Suspense element in the film is good. The guy who acted as Prakash Raj’s son has done a superb job.
Gouravam is a technically sound film.Preetha camera work is pretty good and showcases the village atmosphere well. Editing by Alen and the dialogues by BVS Ravi are simple.Thaman scored full marks for his superb music and excellent back ground score. Production values of Prakashraj are qualitative.
Respectable debut for Allu Sirish though Gouravam movie is slow but the thought provoking story about ‘Honor Killing’ must be appreciated.Gouravam may not apeal to audience who will be looking for interval bang, item songs, commercial fights and huge chase scenes.Gouravam might be fit for the Tamil audience who encourage the films with reality and tragedy but it might be hard for most of the Telugu audience to connect.
